Marathon Bancorp, Inc. is a mutual bank holding company with one wholly owned banking subsidiary, Marathon Bank. Both the holding company and bank are headquartered in Wausau, WI and operate full service banking branches in Mosinee, Rothschild, Wausau, Mequon, and Brookfield. The bank offers traditional banking services, as well as specializing in commercial banking and mortgage banking services.

Amy Zientara

Chairwoman of the Board

Amy Zientara joined Marathon Bank’s Board of Directors in 2009 and currently serves as its Chairwoman of the Board. Zientara is the Commercial Property Manager for the Dudley Tower in downtown Wausau, WI, and she specializes in lease negotiation, building operations and tenant relations. She has served in several capacities throughout the Wausau area including Executive Director of Wausau Area Events and the Executive Director of Main Street Wausau. Her efforts resulted in the creation of the first Business Improvement District in the City of Wausau and also led the way for the revitalization of the downtown business district. Zientara was involved with many community organizations over the course of her career, including leadership groups and other non-profits.

Timothy R. Wimmer

Vice Chairman of the Board

Timothy R. Wimmer has served as a member on the Marathon Bank Board of Directors since 2015. He specializes in acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, property management and business brokerage. Prior to being a Director with Marathon Bank, Wimmer owned and operated several small businesses in the central Wisconsin area in various industries including construction, retail, restaurant, and service business. He maintains involvement in the community and has previously served on the Board of Directors for the Wausau School Foundation, Wausau Area Youth Football, Wausau Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Thomas Grimm

Director

Thomas Grimm joined the Board of Directors at Marathon Bank in 2019. Prior to joining the Board, Grimm retired as a partner at CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP and served as a partner at Schenck SC, a CPA firm (acquired by CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP). He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the WICPA and the AICPA. His areas of expertise include Federal and State income tax. Grimm was previously a member of numerous non-profit boards and now serves as the Past President of the Woodson YMCA Board of Directors in Wausau in addition as well as a member on the Board of Directors of the Entrepreneurial & Education Center.

Ann Werth

Director

Ann joined the Board in June of 2022. Her background includes serving on various Boards and in leadership capacities for the City of Wausau. She was instrumental in the development of the Wausau River District and the commercial and retail development of downtown Wausau. She is a lifelong Wausau resident and has focused on community and economic development for the past 30 years. In addition to joining the Marathon Bank and Marathon Bancorp, Inc. Board of Directors, she serves as a Board Member of the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin. Previously, she was also the Community and Economic Development Director for the City of Wausau and has held leadership roles with the Wausau Area Chamber of Commerce.

Nicholas W. Zillges

President & CEO, Director

Nicholas W. Zillges has served as President and Chief Executive Officer, and as a Director, since joining Marathon Bank in February 2014. Mr. Zillges brings more than 25 years of industry experience and has held several chief executive and executive management positions throughout his career. His background includes successfully leading multiple troubled and underperforming bank recoveries and also growing community banks. He specializes in enterprise risk management, strategic planning, revenue growth strategies, commercial and retail business development, and technology and operations.

Nora Spatz

EVP & Chief Administrative Officer

Nora Spatz joined Marathon Bank in 1986 and currently serves as Executive Vice President and the Chief Administrative Officer. She has more than 30 years of financial services industry experience. Throughout her career, Spatz has held a broad range of senior level positions in operations and retail banking. She has been a board or committee member of various organizations through the Wausau, WI community including the Women’s Community, American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and Marathon County Children’s Festival.

Joy Selting

SVP & Chief Financial Officer

Joy Selting is a Senior Vice President and the Chief Financial Officer. She joined the company in 1999 and has more than 24 years of industry experience. Selting held several finance and accounting positions over the course of her career and served 11 years at Cloverbelt Credit Union before joining Marathon Bank. She completed the Graduate School of Banking Financial Management and remains involved in numerous community organizations throughout Marathon County.

Terry Cornish

SVP & Chief Credit Officer

Terry Cornish joined Marathon Bank in 2015 and currently serves as a Senior Vice President and the Chief Credit Officer. He started his career at River Valley Bank in Wausau. Cornish held several positions in credit administration over the course of his career, and most recently served as the Senior Credit Officer for Marathon Bank. He has more than 25 years of industry experience in areas of credit management, commercial lending, mortgage lending, and consumer lending.

Michelle Knopf

EVP & Director of Mortgage Services

Michelle Knopf currently serves as Executive Vice President and the Director of Mortgage Services for Marathon Bank. She has more than 25 years of banking industry experience, specializing in mortgage banking and loan operations. She joined the bank in 2018 and was previously a Vice President at Intercity Bank. Knopf additionally performs commercial banking business development and relationship management for customers.
